Finding Reality in Lyrics

Never in a million years did I think I would find truth or meaning in a Taylor Swift song. But sure enough this happened to me last night. Granted it was during the heavy metal version that it hit me — but that really doesn’t change anything.

Find out what you want.
Be that guy for a month.

As some of you know, I just got out of my first relationship and it was he who ended it (so naturally I would start relating to Taylor). It only lasted for a month, but as I look back, I realize that these lyrics ring true.

The more you get to know someone, the more you start learning what they like and what they are looking for. This makes it so much easier to become just that. It works for a little while, but then it becomes absolutely exhausting and impossible to keep up.

So when life and all the stresses that come with it hit you, it becomes more difficult to be the person you created to attract the other. That is when the truth comes out, the doubt sneaks in, and the frustration begins.

Hearing those lyrics last night made it all a little more clear. Not to say that is exactly what played out or it was all on him (because we both played a role), but it makes sense, because I can actually pinpoint when it became apparent. We both just refused to acknowledge it. It’s nice to realize that maybe it didn’t all come crashing down for no reason, but maybe it was messed up for the last couple of weeks.

❤ Lauren
